Restaurant The Taj is inspired by the word "The Taj"
Year of construction 1931
Inauguration Year: 1643 Order by the Mughal Emperor ShahJahan Dedicated to Queen Mumtaz Mahal, his wife.
Location: Agra City in the State of Uttar Pradesh (North India)
Type of building: Islamic style mausoleum Cost of construction at that time: 41 million rupees (US $ 87,000) and 500 kg of gold.
The Taj has been designated as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
As a monument to the Mughals, the monuments of Agra express both the personal tastes of the emperors and the evolution of the architectural tradition of which the Taj Mahal undoubtedly constitutes the masterpiece. This mausoleum of white marble, jewel of purity and haunting brightness was erected in memory of the favorite wife: Mumtaz Mahal which means in Persian "The light of the palace"
At their first meeting when she was only 14 years old, Prince Khuram, son of Emperor Mughal, noticed her and immediately fell in love with her. It will only be 5 years later, in 1612, that they married. Although being his third wife, she quickly became a favorite. In 1628, Prince Khuram inherited the throne and became Emperor Shah Jahan.
Endowed with great beauty, having marked the Indian imagination, sung by poets during her lifetime, Mumtaz Mahal accompanied her husband in all his visits to the empire as well as in all his military movements. It was during one of these, against the Lodi in the Dekkan, that she died in Burhanpur, as she was born to her fourteenth child, on June 17, 1631. She was temporarily buried in the gardens of Zainabad. to 11 December of the same year, then to Agrâ.
The Mughal emperor, who adored him, was deeply affected and decided to build a mausoleum of unparalleled beauty for his memory. It took 22 years to build it. All available talented men worked there, as well as 20,000 workers and 1,000 elephants. Makrana's quarries provided immaculate white marble. Designed as a funeral garden, the mausoleum is located outside the garden in a setting that highlights the perfect symmetry of the whole. The fullness of the dome, the luminous mass of white marble and the limited but lyrical use of color, let imagine a beautiful princess surrounded by four bridesmaids.
Top of almost 75 meters, the Taj Mahal, amorous vision of an emperor, is an exceptional building where one finds works of inlay with jasper, turquoise, lapis lazuli, coral, coral, agate, gemstones and other rock crystals from all over Asia and the Middle East. The central building of the tomb is surrounded by four identical minarets, which incline towards the exterior so that in the event of an earthquake, they collapse in the opposite direction to the tomb.
The chief architect was Usad Ahmad from Lahore (Pakistan). Many specialists came from Persia, Turkey, Europe and all parts of India. The most perfect jewel of Muslim art houses the bodies of the royal couple Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan, who was placed there by his son.
The perfumer Jacques Guerlin created in tribute to the Indian queen, Mumtaz Mahal, his perfume Shalimar, developed in 1921, but which was presented only in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, at the Grand Palais.
